Recording studio & in house instruments
The studio is located in a quiet residential area in the suburbs of Cividale del Friuli (UD), a really nice small city with a rich historic and cultural heritage, since the Romans founded it!
We have three rooms: a 20sqm control room and two 30sqm recording spaces.
There’s also a small relax area for breaks between sessions - and a cup of coffee!
The acoustic treatment is carefully designed to have the best sound in the specific room’s destination:
- the CONTROL ROOM hhas linear and even acoustics, with no reverberation in the sweet spot.
- the PIANO ROOM has lively and diffuse acoustics, but always under control. It’s perfect for acoustic instruments and classical music.
- the DRUM ROOM has a mixed acoustics: one side is more absorbing and the other side more diffuse, to simulate an ambience that is ample and live - where that matters.
All the rooms are cabled with balanced audio lines, speaker level lines for amplifiers and cat6 network for an easy and smooth signal management between rooms.
All the rooms are climate controlled, with constant air replacement that’s really quiet and makes the rooms really comfortable, without interfering in the recording or listening.
Studio gear
FAZIOLI F278
FAZIOLI F278 Grand PIano is of the best quality, with great sound and versatility in every kind of situation, it really shines with acoustic and classical music in general. The piano action is precise, reactive and technically perfect, the sound is noble and ample and has an almost infinite color palette, down to the smallest detail and nuance.
The pitch and tuning of the piano is curated exclusively by our thrusty piano technician Luca Bonutti, who has a long time collaboration with the Fazioli company and a great proficiency in this type of instrument. LThe piano pitch Fazioli F278 is really stable and the room has constant temperature and controlled humidity so the piano is always in optimal shape even between different sessions.
The piano pitch is lowered from the factory 443Hz tuning to 442Hz, both to keep freshness and brilliance on the sound and to be more versatile in non classical music.
YAMAHA C6 CONSERVATORY
Semi concert grand piano with brilliant sound and fast action, very well suited for Pop and Jazz, but really versatile anyway, with the classic Yamaha sound. It resides in the “B2 room and thanks to his good sound projection and volume it’s perfect for acoustic playing in pop ensemble or piano trio - even with the drums located nearby in the room.
KAWAI UPRIGHT
Nice sounding upright, useful in recordings and warm-ups of the pianists before recording on the studios’ grand pianos. It has a rich and full timbre, perfect for Pop and Indie music, and we often capture it with ribbon mics or other experimental techniques.
MOOG MINIMOOG MODEL D
The king of mono synths, with unmatched sound.
The example in the studio is one of the first ever built, in 1971, and was Danny Sembello’s own Minimoog.
This particular Minimoog was custom modified by Studio Electronics, with added Midi functionality, dynamic VCF and VCA and an independent LFO.
SEQUENTIAL CIRCUITS PROPHET 5
Legendary polyphonic 5 voice synth created by Dave Smith, now again in production after 40 years. Our P5 is an early 80’s rev 3.3.
KORG MS20 KIT
Modern reissue of the classic Korg mono semi modular synth, with Midi and usb interfaces.

Regia
La regia è il cuore dello studio di registrazione, il luogo in cui si controlla e coordina tutta l’attività di produzione musicale e registrazione fino al risultato finale.
Disposta in maniera ergonomica e pratica, si sviluppa in più zone adatte alle diverse tipologie di attività:
- una zona centrale, dove risiede il banco, con tutti gli outboard pre cablati in patch bay e pronti all’uso. I collegamenti vengono regolarmente manutenuti per velocizzare le operazioni di cablaggio e configurazione dello studio in base alle esigenze della sessione.
- una zona in cui sono disposte le varie tastiere e i sintetizzatori.
- una zona dedicata alle chitarre, bassi e testate e pedali per chitarra
- una zona con un divano per musicisti e ospiti
Dal punto di vista acustico, la costruzione e trattamento della regia è stato pensato per avere un ascolto neutro, equilibrato e confortevole, privo di colorazioni e riverberi evidenti.
L’ascolto è un sistema Audio Factory AS29, tarato e bilanciato per poter esprimere al meglio le sue potenzialità, ottimo su tutti i generi musicali anche per la produzione e il sound design.
Il sistema di registrazione principale è basato su Pro Tools, con convertitori Avid, Grace Design, Neve e Api, si utilizzano all’occorrenza anche altre DAW come Ableton Live.
La scelta dei preamplificatori va dai più neutrali Grace Design e Millennia fino ai più colorati Neve, Api, Amek e ai valvolari Universal Audio e Manley.
Le tastiere sono uno dei punti di forza della regia: ci sono sintetizzatori vintage come Minimoog (1971), Little Phatty, Prophet 5 (rev. 3, 1981), Korg MS20 e più moderni come DSI Pro 2 e Poly Evolver Keyboard, Korg Kronos, Nord Stage 3 e Nord Lead 3, oltre ai moduli Roland Integra e 2080 e Korg Triton e Trinity rack. Ultima arrivata Osmose di Expressive-E, una tastiera dalla meccanica rivoluzionaria che permette bending, vibrati e soluzioni espressive mai sperimentate prima!
Il parco chitarre comprende gli strumenti standard sia elettrici che acustici: chitarre e bassi Fender e Gibson, acustiche Martin e Eko. Le testate per chitarra presenti in regia (Marshall e EVH) sono cablate direttamente con la sala della batteria, dando la possibilità di suonare in regia ascoltando dai monitor, evitando gli alti volumi delle casse in ripresa.
La scelta dei pedali ed effetti per basso e chitarra è anch’essa ricca e completa con Dunlop, Eventide, Boss, moog Strymon, Electro Harmonix.
Sala dei Pianoforti
La sala A, o sala dei pianoforti, è attigua alla regia, con la quale ha un contatto visivo diretto.
Vi sono presenti due pianoforti a coda: uno Yamaha C6 Conservatory (210 cm) e un grancoda Fazioli F278, vero fiore all’occhiello dello studio.
Ci sono poi un organo Hammond C3 del 1969 con Leslie 145 e un piano elettrico Rhodes Mark I del 1978.
L’acustica della sala è viva e piacevole ed è adatta alla ripresa del pianoforte solo, duo pianistico, ensemble da camera e strumenti acustici in generale.
Sala della Batteria
La sala B, o sala della batteria, è un ambiente adatto alla registrazione delle batterie, ma non solo!
Grazie al ricambio continuo dell’aria e all’acustica studiata per essere sempre piacevole ed equilibrata, la sala B è adatta anche ad ospitare prove o registrazioni di band intere.
L’acustica è piuttosto assorbente nella zona in cui è posizionata la batteria, così da catturare bene il suono diretto con i microfoni, mentre nel resto della sala il trattamento è più diffusivo, per aumentare l’ampiezza e ariosità al di là delle dimensioni della sala. Grazie a queste caratteristiche, la microfonatura degli ambienti è molto efficace.
Nella sala sono presenti un pianoforte verticale Kawai, un piccolo impianto audio con mixer, amplificatori per chitarra e basso collegabili direttamente con la regia tramite linea di potenza.
Gli strumenti residenti nello studio sono tutti di altissimo livello e qualità, costantemente utilizzati e manutenuti.
