The Fazioli F278 Grand Piano

The Fazioli F278 Grand Piano is considered one of the best grand piano models ever built. Great technical research and a selection of wood and crafting materials with no compromises, the Fazioli Grand Piano is capable of exceptional results, both technically and sonically.

The piano was checked and approved in the studio by Ing. Paolo Fazioli and Luca Fazioli.

Pianoforte Fazioli

The piano in our studiois the F278-2340, a beautiful example of this model, with a very round tone that’s not dark, and a very even response across every register: full and rich basses, but not over imposing, clear and on-focus medium register, but not over bright, cantabile and high register really beautiful and well balanced.

The sound and timbre control is extremely precise, thanks to the responsive action and the hammers always on top shape and under control.

The timbre palette is really rich and extreme, ranging from the most subtle and controlled pianissimo to the most thunderous fortissimo, always with an excellent and pleasant sound.

The pitch and tuning of the piano is curated exclusively by our thrusty piano technician Luca Bonutti, who has a long time collaboration with the Fazioli company and a great proficiency in this type of instrument. The piano pitch is lowered from the factory 443Hz tuning to 442Hz, both to keep freshness and brilliance on the sound and to be more versatile in non classical music.

We use only the best Schoeps, Neumann and AKG condenser mics for our piano recordings, and change microphone placement accordingly to different genres or sound needings. For classical and acoustic music in general, we tend to prefer distant micing with more ambience but for more modern or pop contexts the microphones will be placed in a closer position. In every scenario, detail and sound quality are our priority.

We can enter in the detail of music performances, with more than an eye on the score and constantly giving feedback to the players. We have a strong music expertise and can relate directly with musicians for the best performance.

Auditions&Competitions

One of the options in our studio is the finished production of video and audio for piano auditions and competitions.

We shoot and record the whole performance, with both hands on view and with no cuts to guarantee the authenticity of the test, with high quality audio and 4k video.

F.A.Q.

The piano is tuned before every recording and we keep the hammers’ felt density under control for an even sound. At least once a year we do a complete check-up on every aspect of the mechanics and action.

Perfect piano tuning and setup is essential for a great performance and recording, so although the piano pitch is really stable, a tuning is mandatory before every session. The piano technician can also remain available for tuning adjustments during the session, at client’s request and with a additional fee.

We use the best Schoeps and Neumann microphones for classical piano recordings, with the option to use other condenser, dynamic or ribbon mics for other genres or needings.

Your piano performance could be good, almost perfect, but we offer the option to combine multiple takes to elevate the level of the musical vibe of the recording, for a better final result. We tend to prefer to do the editing right after the recording sessions, we choose and select the best takes during the recording sessions so we can preserve the freshness and energy of the playing and have a more direct experience of the link between recording and editing.

We are strongly committed to the fact that a great planning and preparation of the music you’re gonna record is essential for the best final result.
